My Year of Flying in 2024 ✈️

2024 was by far the most I've ever flown in a single year, and not sure I'll ever break the pure mileage either (looking like I'm on pace to break 60 flights in 2025, but not miles). I made an effort last year to travel as much as I could. I'm sure I've mentioned it elsewhere on the blog but I had a unique situation due to both being laid off (best thing to ever happen to me) as well as starting full-time contract and freelance work.

It's looking like 2025 will also be a big travel year for me, but a little less international. My wife and I are really trying to focus on seeing more of California and the US. this year.

Some notable flying highlights from 2024:

  • ANA A380 F – this was a bucket list flight for me. I think ANA's Flying Honu liveries are some of the best in the world. Not to mention the A380 and ANA's fantastic hard and soft product on the plane.
  • More STARLUX – flew this airline for the first time in 2023 and was glad to fly them again, although on a much quicker flight from TPE to NRT.
  • Cathay Pacific F – just a short flight from HND to HKG but it's always great to try a new F product. I have a longer F flight booked later this year from HKG to LAX, for now.
  • QSuites – My first time on Qatar's QSuites lived up to the hype. After a hell of a clusterfuck with the QR employees at AMM (I could write a whole thing on this, they essentially accidentally deleted my entire award trip from AMM->DOH->ATL and were scrambling to fix things – if it weren't for the excellent people at DOH I would have been screwed)
  • AA Executive Platinum – thanks to a fast track from AA via Hyatt I was able to get AA EP status. Lots of upgrades on Alaska, some on AA.
  • KL fifth freedom twice between SCL and EZE. Easy delft houses!
  • Maybe my favorite flight of the year, LH J on the 747 upper deck. I know LH J is mid, but for a daytime flight home from FRA the upper deck on the 747 was amazing. Def bucket list for me.

Peep the Flighty summary below!

Some of these stats I really can't believe. 42 airports! 25 different airlines. Wow.
